Giving Eyewear as a Gift – Handmade in Berlin
Giving sunglasses as a gift is considered risky: shape, size, taste. Colored eyewear is different. It is not chosen for the frame but for the color – and the color is a statement about the person receiving it. "I see you as someone looking for calm" or "someone who needs a fresh start" is a more personal gift than an object that merely looks good.
BERLINEON has been making colored eyewear in Berlin since 2011, by hand, every piece numbered. This guide explains how to turn that into a gift that lands: which color suits whom, what exists at which price level, and how much time to allow.
Why colored eyewear works as a gift
Three reasons that speak for colored eyewear on the gift table:
- It is not interchangeable. Every frame carries a serial number; each model is limited to between 5 and 500 pieces. You will not find it in a department store.
- It says something. In our reading, the color stands for a state – green for balance, magenta for power, violet for focus, sky blue for perspective. Whoever gives it chooses a wish for the other person.
- It has a story. Plant-based acetate, UV400 lenses from Berliner Optik Werk, the Hero's Journey as the idea behind it. That is something to tell at the table while the box opens.
What it is not: sunglasses for the motorway. The tint is light to medium, made for the city, the evening, the stage and indoors. If you want to give someone classic dark sunglasses, this is the wrong place – and we would rather say so up front.
Which color for whom?
You know the person you are giving to. That is enough. The rule of thumb from our reading, also found in the buying guide, transfers to other people:
| The person … | Color | Model |
|---|---|---|
| has too much going on right now | sky blue + green | Ayurveda, €111.11 |
| is content overall, likes it light | rosé | Pinky Blinders, €111.11 |
| stands before a new beginning, needs momentum | magenta + green | Stereo Love, €222.22 |
| is working on something big, gets lost in details | violet + blue | Deep Purple, €222.22 |
| has a thousand ideas and little ground | green + violet | Joker Face, €222.22 |
| is making hard decisions right now | sky blue | Mr. Blue Sky, €333.33 |
| wants everything at once – and deserves it | all four, with delivery in person | American Dream, €1,111.11 |
If unsure: write to us before buying, two sentences about the person and the occasion. We reply with an honest recommendation – even if it turns out cheaper than expected.
Three price levels
€11.11 – the small gift. The Masterclass with roadmap is a digital product: video course, self-coaching plan, Hero's Journey roadmap as a PDF. It comes with a handwritten postcard by mail, carrying a discount code for the first frame. For people who like to read first and wear later.
€111.11 to €333.33 – the eyewear. Nine models, all handmade, UV400, hand-numbered. The entry point is the two calmest models at €111.11; above them the two-color Stereo Chrome frames and the single-color classics.
€1,111.11 – the premium edition. American Dream with all interchangeable lenses, capsule case, personal delivery across Germany and 1:1 guidance. A gift that does not arrive by post but with a person.

When to order
Shipping within Germany takes, by our own indication, one to eleven days; from €200 it is free in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. If you are giving on a fixed date – birthday, Christmas, anniversary – order two weeks ahead or ask briefly whether the model is in stock. Every frame is finished individually, so it pays to agree on color and model beforehand rather than change afterwards.
For the handover there are two routes: the eyewear comes to the giver and is handed over in person, or you enter the recipient's address in the order form and note in the comments field that it is a gift.
